Dr. Michael G. King has devoted his career to helping people manage chronic pain and improve overall well-being. With more than 40 years of experience in clinical practice, research, and teaching, he developed Pain Therapy 4 U to bridge the gap between original, "pre-western civilization" techniques, including methods drawn from the most ancient civilization (Australian Indigenous people) along with contemporary psychology and physical health, The course we offer combines evidence-based methods hypnosis, and traditional mind–body techniques. Dr King has worked extensively across Australia, providing therapy, pain management, and clinical assessments in Victoria and Queensland, with experience in leading health practices, including Sunshine Allied Health and Nutricula Psychology.
Dr. Michael G. King has also contributed significantly to academic research and teaching:
Dr. King holds dual doctorates—Clinical Psychology (University of Melbourne) and Physical Sciences (University of Bradford, UK)—as well as multiple master’s degrees in Applied Science, Health Science, and Educational & Learning Psychology.
He is a Fellow of the Australian Psychological Society (FAPS), an AHPRA-registered Clinical Psychologist and Supervisor, and a Registered Western Herbal Medicine Practitioner (NHAA). His research has appeared in respected journals including the British Journal of Psychology, Human Factors, and Journal of Clinical Psychology, and he is co-author of Stress: Theory and Practice.
Dr. King’s work empowers individuals to reclaim balance, clarity, and control over both their physical and emotional wellbeing. Pain Therapy 4 U provides structured, evidence-based tools to help people manage chronic pain, improve function, and live more comfortably, reflecting a career dedicated to compassionate care and lifelong learning.
Pain Therapy 4 U was created to provide a practical, science-backed approach to managing chronic pain, combining the latest psychological research with proven mind–body strategies. Built on over 40 years of clinical experience and research, the program helps individuals reduce pain perception, restore function, and enhance overall wellbeing. By focusing on the connection between mind and body, and integrating mindfulness, therapeutic guidance, and focused awareness, the program promotes lasting relief and a greater sense of control.
Your brain is currently bombarded with incoming pain messages (for example from an earlier injury site that the medical profession says is not "healed"). Pain Therapy 4 U creates a different set of automatic neural responses to incoming pain messages. First we make a "new" area that is not dominated by pain. Next we help you select that "quiet, more comfortable" place and take control of "how I feel right now". This phase of the program will help you focus on tasks, or get to sleep. But that is not the final goal of the program. Using repeated guided sessions, much like learning a physical skill, the brain is trained over successive periods 4–6 weeks (many folk will want to progress to the next lesson in one week - that is worth a try) to process incoming pain signals differently. Consistent practice is essential, as listening to the recordings multiple times daily helps build lasting neural pathways and enables you to respond to pain more calmly while reclaiming daily life.
The Role of Sound and Music
Music and sound play a central role in Pain Therapy 4 U. By converting pain signals into auditory experiences, the program leverages a naturally occurring phenomenon called synesthesia, where the brain reinterprets incoming sensory information. Historical and cultural practices, such as the use of the bull roarer by Indigenous Australians, show that rhythmic sound patterns, particularly around that low frequency range, can replace the perception of pain. Modern neuroscience confirms that the techniques used in our program can train the brain to perceive pain as "more like a sound", helping reduce anxiety and improve overall wellbeing. We teach the brain to use these auditory techniques, providing a structured, evidence-based framework to help individuals manage chronic pain, and by this means reduce stress and improve your llife.
